Building the Exocet

I have been watching the "building the Exocet" YouTube channel. He (Brent) seems to be doing a very good job.

I have definitely learned a lot about the insides of a Miata and a lot about the Exocet kit.

It looks like he has finished mock up and has now taken it apart to have it powder coated.

I'm looking forward to seeing it finished.

Brent just released a video of his frame powder coated. It sounds like the powder coater did a really good job.

It shouldn't take very long for him to reassemble it, but it looks like he lives in Oregon so the weather may keep it off the roads for a little while.

Thanks Lonny for the kind words. I'm trying my best with building it. Right now I'm tearing back down for a turbo build. Not the whole car again but rather just the engine bay basically. Started putting up my exhaust building videos, I'm not a welder at all but I've had to do so much welding on this thing i'm starting to get the hang of it.

I just watched your video about making a down pipe. It looks like you were able to clear everything very well.

How much HP do you anticipate and are you able to tune the OEM ECM or do you have to use an aftermarket ECM?

I spent a lot of time watching Brent's videos when I was building mine. If I had it to do all over again I would have done what Brent did which was to build it, make modifications, then powder coat it. I ended up painting my sport chassis to save a little cash. I am no painter and it shows on my build, although I did use good paint(POR15). The Exocet chassis I have seen look so good in powder. Maybe next winter I'll tear it down and do it right.

Powder coat is very tough stuff, and it's cool how many colors are available.
Building a complete kit and then taking it apart to powder coat it and then building it again is a lot of work but it is probably the best way to do it in the long run.
You probably find things that you wish you would have done differently. Building it twice gives you a chance to do a better job the second time.
